WASHINGTON, D.C. - Joost Lagendijk, a senior European parliamentarian, said Wednesday that neither EU nor he considered that Turkey was moving towards Iran.
Lagendijk, co-chairperson of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliament Committee, told the A.A that his statements at a panel of the annual conference of American-Turkish Council (ATC) in Washington, D.C. were falsified.
"A daily wrote as if I or EU had some fears that the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party wanted to move Turkey towards Iran," he said.
"I only wanted to point out that there are some people who have such concerns in Turkey. I think that they are wrong. Neither EU nor he considers that Turkey is moving towards Iran," Lagendijk said.
