ISTANBUL - A senior U.S. official described the arrival of 60 U.S. companies in Turkey in order to attend a conference on trade as an aggressive development on Wednesday.
A conference titled "Trade Winds Europe" jointly organized by Turkish-American Business Association (TABA/AmCham) and the U.S. Department of Commerce was held in the city of Istanbul on Wednesday.
Speaking at the conference, Israel Hernandez, the Assistant Secretary for Trade Promotion of the U.S. Department of Commerce, said that 60 companies from 25 U.S. states were currently in Istanbul to attend the meeting.
Those companies' arrival was an enterprising development for Turkey and U.S. firms were definitely interested in doing business with their Turkish counterparts, Hernandez said.
He also said Istanbul was selected as the venue of the conference as Turkey was located at the crossroads of the East and the West.
Hernandez said Turkey had a unique position in this regard.
"Trade Winds Europe" brings together experts and trade representatives from across Europe for a unique chance to provide U.S. businesses with the knowledge necessary to take advantage of new opportunities in growing European markets, especially Turkey.
