ANKARA - Turkish State Minister Said Yazicioglu met Maldives' Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid in Ankara on Wednesday.
Yazicioglu told reporters that Turkey and Maldives were supporting each other and cooperate in international meetings of Organization of the Islamic Conference.
He said that they were expecting Maldives to support Turkey's candidacy for non-permanent membership to UN Security Council in 2009-2010 period.
Shahid also told reporters that visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Maldives after tsunami disaster in 2004 had been an important gesture. He thanked Turkey for its assistance to Maldives.
Shahid said that his country extended support to Turkey's candidacy for non-permanent membership to UN Security Council.
