ERZURUM - Turkey confiscated tons of illicit drugs that belonged to various terrorist organizations in its operations in the last 24 years, security department said on Wednesday.
Turkish security forces have seized more than 4 tons of heroin, 22 tons of hashish and 710 kilograms of cocaine --that were connected to terrorist organizations-- in their operations against illicit trafficking since 1983, the security department said in its report covering the years till 2007.
The report said 783 people were caught in 350 operations staged in the last 24 years, and enumerated the terrorist organizations that were involved in illicit drug trafficking as PKK, ASALA, TKP/ML and DHKP/C.
In 2007, security forces staged seven operations against illicit drug trafficking that had links with the terrorist organization PKK, the report said.
The report said that the security forces impounded 307 kilograms of heroin and 947 kilograms of hashish in their operations in the previous year.
"49 people were captured in these operations," the report also said.
