Turkish Defense Minister Addresses Meeting On Turkey-US Relations

WASHINGTON - Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul addressed Tuesday a meeting at a conference held by Turkish-American Council in Washington.
Gonul described a November meeting between Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush as "a turning point" in the fight against the terrorist organization PKK, saying that "concrete results" were achieved in Turkish military operations in Iraq`s north after that meeting.
"Turkey attaches great importance to U.S. cooperation and intelligence sharing in the fight against the terrorist organization and I would like to thank the U.S. administration for that," Gonul said.
Gonul expressed hope that an Armenian bill on the incidents of 1915 would not come up at the U.S. Congressional floor in the future, which he said could seriously damage Turkish-U.S. relations.
The Turkish minister also said that relations between the two countries were strengthened after the Armenian bill was stopped from being debated at the Congressional floor and cooperation against the terrorist organization.
