ANKARA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives is expected to arrive in Turkey on Tuesday.
Minister Abdulla Shahid will come to Turkey at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan.
Shahid`s visit will be the first high-level official visit from Maldives to Turkey, officials from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
Within the framework of the visit, delegations from the two countries will hold meetings to be co-chaired by Babacan and Shahid on Wednesday. Opportunities to improve bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues will be discussed during the talks.
Shahid will be received by Turkey`s President Abdullah Gul as well.
He will also hold talks with Turkish business circles in Istanbul.
The Maldives (or Maldive Islands), officially the Republic of Maldives, is an island nation consisting of a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean.
Abdulla Shahid was assigned to the post of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 2005.
