Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Turgay Avci countered statements of the President of the Greek Cypriot Administration Demetris Christofias arguing that such accusations of insult against Turkey will only deepen mistrust between the two communities.
In his written statement Avci reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot community firmly disputed accusations against Turkey for supposedly "occupying" Cyprus when, through international agreements, prevented Greek occupation of the island and the shedding of Turkish Cypriot blood.
Avcy reminded that through the Turkish intervention, many lives of AKEL members including Christofias were saved from the Greek junta.
