DOHA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that it was impossible for the Turkish government to accept any impediment in front of investment.
"The Turkish government is resolute to overcome the obstacles and negative elements if there are any," Erdogan said while addressing the Turkish-Qatari Businessmen Meeting.
Erdogan said Turkey has been closely monitoring the steps made by Qatar recently, noting that, "Qatar takes important steps in order to become a center of economy and finance in its region."
"There has been a rise in trade volume between Turkey and Qatar. However, this is not enough. Potential is higher than this," Erdogan said and expressed pleasure over the investments of Turkish contractors in Qatar.
"Total cost of the projects undertaken by Turkish contractors in Qatar exceeded 5 billion USD. I hope recently signed agreements will boost bilateral economic relations," Erdogan added.
Erdogan said Turkish government removed impediments in front of the direct global investments with a law enacted in 2003, noting that there has been a significant improvement in investment atmosphere in Turkey in the past 5 years.
Turkish PM said Turkey has an important potential in investment and trade, adding that, "Turkey is a gate for Europe opening to Middle East and a gate for the Middle East opening to Europe. Turkey provides convenient opportunities for Qatari businessmen."
"Economic powers of Turkey and Qatar are also in the interests of the region," Erdogan said.
