ESKISEHIR - There has been a rise in number of refugees coming to Turkey in the recent years, a U.N official in Turkey said on Monday.
Metin Corabatir, the External Affairs Officer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Ankara, delivered a speech at a briefing on "UNHCR and Refugee System in Turkey".
"Refugees only come up only when a boat sinks and may people lose their lives, then they are forgotten," Corabatir said.
He said, "refugees are obliged to reside in some specific provinces in Turkey. NGOs, media and government should protect these people. There is a prejudice against the refugees in the whole world and in Turkey."
