LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mehmet Ali Talat said Monday "Turkish Cypriots and Turkey are endeavoring to solve the Cyprus problem. It is the Greek Cypriots that must prove that they want a solution in Cyprus".
"Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias's remarks targeting Turkey help no one except poisoning the atmosphere," Talat said.
"Mr. Christofias should not forget that the Turkish Cypriots, with the support of Turkey, have given the world a lesson on the solution of the Cyprus problem," Talat underlined.
"Turkish Cypriots accepted the UN resolution plan, widely known as the Annan plan, and demonstrated a determined posture," Talat said. "Accordingly," Talat noted, "the Turkish Cypriots and Turkey does not need to get convinced".
"Turkey has openly and clearly supported the solution of the Cyprus problem. UN Secretary General, in its reports to the UN Security Council, has thanked Turkey for its support for a solution in Cyprus," Talat said.
"Mr. Christofias knows that it was the Greek Cypriot side that did not approach a solution in Cyprus," Talat said.
"Christofias's accusations against Turkey would carry the Cyprus problem to nowhere and would not help finding a solution in Cyprus," Talat also said.
