ANKARA - Turkey's Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said Monday that he assessed the bill amending Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) was in compliance with legal procedures.
Briefing reporters on the issue at a press conference in the parliament, Toptan said he sent the bill to the parliamentary committee on justice.
Toptan said the committee would thoroughly discuss the issue and write a report. He said later the committee would send the report to the General Assembly.
"The General Assembly will then make its final decision on this long-discussed article of TCK," said Toptan.
When asked about his views on who should have the mandate to grant authorization for investigation based on Article 301, Toptan said Ministry of Justice should be authorised rather than the President.
