PARIS - Turkish State Minister Mehmet Aydin, who is currently in French capital of Paris, said Monday Aegean province of Izmir deserved to be the host-city of EXPO 2015.
"Izmir could have succeeded in hosting this event quite easily. However, a friendly country won this competition," Aydin said, regarding Italian city of Milan`s victory at the voting held in Paris on Monday.
Commenting on the "early excitement" caused by the information leaked out by unauthorized sources during the vote, Aydin said results of the first round of vote were leaked outside due to excitement and such results were perceived as the figures for the final vote.
"There has been a serious misunderstanding," Aydin said.
Italian city of Milan will host EXPO 2015--cited as the third largest event in the world in terms of economic and cultural impact, after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.
