PARIS - Executives of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) selected Italian city of Milan as the venue of EXPO 2015 on Monday.
During the final voting aiming to determine the host-city of EXPO 2015, Milan got 86 votes, while 65 delegates voted in favor of the other candidate, Aegean province of Izmir.
Milan, which is known as the "industrial and commercial capital" of the world`s seventh biggest economy Italy, carried out publicity campaigns highlighting its experience in the organization of previous EXPOs and similar international events.
Italy previously hosted EXPO organizations for four times. The event was held in this year`s winner Milan in 1906, in Italian capital of Rome in 1953, in Naples in 1954 and most recently in Genoa in 1992.
After the voting, Turkish ambassador Solmaz Unaydin told AA that Turkish officials did their best in the competition.
EXPO 2015 is the next scheduled World`s Fair after Expo 2012.
Two candidate cities, Izmir and Italy`s Milan, competed to host the event, which is cited as the third largest event in the world in terms of economic and cultural impact, after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.
Izmir`s theme for EXPO 2015 was "Health for All."
