Simsek: Turkey Needs E.U. And E.U. Needs Turkey

WASHINGTON - Turkish State Minister for Treasury said on Friday that Turkey needs EU, and EU needs Turkey, and both parties are sharing the same values.
Minister Mehmet Simsek, who is currently in the United States to attend IMF and World Bank's spring meetings, spoke in a conference held by George Washington University.
Simsek said that Turkey targets to complete EU membership talks, and he expressed belief that Turkey will join EU.
Simsek said that developments in global and domestic politics will have a limited influence on Turkish economy which has become sound against shocks thanks to the reforms it fulfilled in the last 5-6 years.
He said that Turkey will focus on reforms on employment market, social security, tax, energy market and education.
Regarding how Turkey will deal with the influences of decrease in global economy, Simsek said that reserves are sound and economy is strong in Turkey. He added that Turkey is on a good position within that scope.
