Lokmaci Gate Opened With Ceremony

The Lokmacy gateway in Nicosia was opened with ceremonies from within the region.
The gateway which had opened as agreed upon from the March 21 meeting between President Mehmet Ali Talat and President of the Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Christofias, had initially been closed as a result of the appraisal of bi-communal conflict in December 21, 1963 and the gateway remained closed until 1968. The gateway had reopened in 1968 and eventually was again closed as a result of the attack by the Greek junta on July 15, 1974.
The Lokmacy gate is the 6th gateway which has reopened for crossing between the two communities since April 23, 2003.
