ISTANBUL - Former leader of Germany's Greens called for "better exploration" of renewable energy resources in Turkey, voicing "serious doubts" about nuclear energy.
"I cannot interfere with Turkey's domestic policies but I personally believe that nuclear energy has no future. The best thing Turkey could do is to better explore the sun, the wind and other renewable energy resources," said Joschka Fischer, when responding to a question about a planned nuclear power plant in Turkey, at a conference in Istanbul.
"I believe that your country has enormous opportunities in renewable energy. The wind for example, especially in east and southeast Turkey, offers a rapid development move," Fischer said.
Fischer also said Turkey could make significant contributions to its neighbors in exporting clean energy.
