Cyprus Issue Is National Cause Of Turkey, Gen. Basbug

LEFKOSA - Cyprus issue was a common and national cause of Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Ilker Basbug said on Friday.
Gen. Basbug held a news conference at Turkish Peace Force headquarters in Cyprus and said bi-communality must be preserved in a solution of the Cyprus issue.
"Cyprus issue is depended on two basic principles. One of them is our responsibility to ensure security of Turkish Cypriots and the other is that Cyprus has a strategic role in regard to Turkey`s security," Gen. Basbug said.
There must be a comprehensive, fair and lasting solution under the roof of the UN, he said.
