Majority Of Americans Say US Should Have Stayed Out Of Iraq: Poll

WASHINGTON, July 17 (AFP) - A majority of Americans surveyed for a New York Times/CBS News poll released Saturday said the United States should not have launched the war in Iraq.
Fifty-one percent of respondents said the United States should have stayed out of Iraq, up from 46 percent in April, May and June.
Some 45 percent said military intervention was a good idea, down from 48 percent in June. Sixty-two percent said the Iraq war was not worth the cost in lost lives and other repercussions.
Just 37 percent of those surveyed said they approved of the way President George W. Bush conducted the war, compared with 58 percent who disapproved.
Fifty-six percent of respondents said the situation in Iraq was bad or very bad, while 43 percent said they thought efforts to stabilize the country were going well or very well.
The July 11-15 poll of 955 adults had a three-percentage-point margin of error.
