ATHENS, July 17 (AFP) - Police in the northern Greek city of Salonika arrested a Serbian national who is wanted for the murder of Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic in March last year, police said on Saturday.
The Salonika police chief said the man, 34-year-old Dejan Milenkovic, was arrested late on Friday in the city by a large force of police.
Milenkovic, who had been sought by Greek police for the past two months, was not armed but was arrested in possession of a suitcase full of cash, police chief Constantin Tzekis said.
The suspect did not have identity papers, but he had confirmed that he was Milenkovic, he added.
The Greek authorities had sent his fingerprints to Belgrade for a positive identification.
Tzekis was due to give a press conference on the arrest later in the day.
He said Milenkovic would be taken before a prosecutor later in the day, and the Serbian authorities were expected to file a request for his extradition.
Zoran Djindjic, a reformist, was shot dead by a sniper at the entrance to a government building in the Serbian capital Belgrade on March 12 last year.
The Serbian authorities have said they believe some 200 people were behind a plot to kill him.
