ANTALYA - The 11th International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival will end on July 17 with Bartholdy Felix Mendelssohn's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' to be performed by Italian La Scala Ballet Company.
Holding a press conference, State Opera and Ballet Director General Remzi Buharali said on Friday that they aimed to extend period of the festival in the coming years in an effort to protect ancient theatre of Aspendos.
Recalling that the famous La Scala Ballet Company of Italy would perform Mendelssohn's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' on July 16 and 17, Buharali expressed his pleasure with hosting such a company in the festival.
The La Scala Company will perform the ballet choreographed by George Balanchine together with the Ankara State Opera and Ballet orchestra, the Antalya State Opera and Ballet choir and Antalya Children's Ballet Company.
Meanwhile, La Scala Ballet Director Frederic Olivieri said that 67 out of 100 members of the company came to Turkey to perform in the festival.
La Scala Orchestra Conductor Carlo Fontana expressed his pleasure with staging ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' in the magnificent atmosphere of the ancient theatre of Aspendos.
