ANKARA - Reza Hossaini, United Nations Children`s Fund (UNICEF) Turkey Representative, said that education --especially the training of girls-- developed significantly in Turkish southeastern Anatolia region.
Hossaini who visited southeastern provinces of Batman, Siirt and Sirnak told AA that education is the fundamental element for development. He noted that there is an increase in the rate of girls who were enrolled to schools in the region, adding that in several towns this rate doubled in recent years.
However, there are still many things to be done, he noted.
Hossaini said that development in several provinces and towns is slower than the others, adding that this should not be discouraging; and people should be patient.
He stressed that both short and long term solutions are necessary in education in the southeastern region.
Hossaini said that non-governmental organizations, the government and officials should convince families and provide the continuation of the education of children.
Thanks to "More Schools" campaign which was carried out jointly by UNICEF and NTV channel, many people, institutions and organizations donated money, and prefabricated schools were constructed in southeastern Anatolia region.
