ANKARA - Rifat Hisarciklioglu, the chairman of the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), said President Abdullah Gul is hopeful and will do everything in his power to ensure that a compromise will reign within the society.
"The President particularly stressed that the future of the nation and the integrity of the country are above everything," Hisarciklioglu told reporters after meeting President Gul at the Cankaya Presidential Palace in capital Ankara.
Mustafa Kumlu, the chairman of Turkish Confederation of Labor (Turk-Is); Salim Uslu, the chairman of Moral Rights Workers Union (Hak-Is); Bircan Akyildiz, the chairman of Turkish Confederation of Public Laborers` Unions (Kamu-Sen); Tugrul Kudatgobilik, the chairman of Turkish Confederation of Employers` Unions (TISK); Sevki Bayraktar, the chairman of Turkish Agricultural Chambers` Union (TZOB); and Bendevi Palandoken, the chairman of Turkish Confederation of Tradesmen & Craftsmen (TESK) accompanied Hisarciklioglu during his courtesy call to the President.
"Mr. President expressed his sensitivity that democracy should not be harmed," Hisarciklioglu told.
Hisarciklioglu also quoted President Gul as saying that the allegations about a political chaos (is reigning in the country) is wrong.
"The society has to reach a compromise within days when the world is heading towards a serious crisis and when Turkey has to take urgent measures to eliminate the effects of this crisis," he told.
Hisarciklioglu repeated his call that the common sense should prevail and compromise should become a priority, and welcomed President Gul`s meeting with chairmen of political parties (aimed at finding a compromise).
"The President supported our call (saying that common sense should prevail), and we left the meeting hopeful," he also said.
