UTAH (CIHAN) - Turkish international basketball star Mehmet Okur has signed a 6-year contract with Utah Jazz. Okur was the Jazz's top target among the NBA's 2004 free agent players.
Okur penned Turkey's record-high $50 million six-year contract with Utah Jazz as the transfer restriction deadline for NBA free agent players expired on July 14.
The Detroit Pistons could yet keep Mehmet Okur in their squad if they match Utah Jazz's $50 million offer.
The Turkish player had joined the Detroit Pistons during the 2002-2003 season. He helped the Pistons to claim the NBA championship title in their 4-1 victory over the L.A. Lakers this year.
The Detroit Pistons had offered Okur 40 million US dollars for 6-years. It is highly possible that Mehmet Okur will play for Utah Jazz next season as Detroit have already reached their transfer budget limit for next season by signing Rasheed Wallace and free-agent forward Antonio McDyess.
