FRANKFURT (CIHAN) - In an interview with the German Magazine "Der Spiegel", Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis spoke about Turkey's EU membership bid. Karamanlis noted Ankara's approach to Europe should be rewarded, and declared that he supported the European view which anticipates that Turkey should enter the EU. The PM believes that Turkey proved its wish to become Europeanized.
In response to a question relating to full EU membership for Turkey, Karamanlis responded that full accession depends on the Eupeanization efforts of Ankara. He said that he believed Turkey seems willing enough to make the effort for full membership. He also added that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Government has shown a positive attitude towards Europeanization; however, those who will decide to be really European are the people living in Turkey. The PM lastly noted that the EU is signaling positively for Turkey's EU membership.
