Italian Governor Pays Visit To Istanbul Governer Guler

ISTANBUL - Fabio Ceccherini, Governor of Italian city of Siena, paid a visit to Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler on Wednesday.
Speaking during the meeting, Guler recalled that Istanbul was elected Cultural Capital of Europe for 2010 and there could be cooperation between the two cities in this respect.
"Istanbul`s cooperation with cities that housed similar civilizations in the past is important. Since Siena is a city that was home to both Roman and Byzantium empires and it houses artifacts from both civilizations, there can be ample opportunities for cooperation between our two cities," said Guler.
Meanwhile, Nuri Colakoglu, chairman of the Executive Committee of Istanbul`s bid for the title of Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010, who accompanied Ceccherini said there was a very special collection of artifacts inspired by the Byzantium civilization and Istanbul, in Siena and its museums. He said they were planning to organize an exhibition displaying these artifacts in 2010.
