ISTANBUL - Istanbul University (IU) of Turkey has become the representative of Orphanet, an internet portal for rare diseases and orphan drugs, visited by nearly 20,000 people from 170 countries each day.
According to a statement released by IU`s Press and PR Office on Tuesday, Orphanet is a health portal developed jointly by the French Health Ministry and INSERM (Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medikale) in 1997.
Orphanet provides free information on more than 50,000 diseases, as well as ways to improve diagnosis and treatment processes and life standards of those suffering from rare diseases, the statement said.
"Istanbul University gathers the medical information collected in Turkey and transfers it to Orphanet`s information network," the statement added.
