ISTANBUL - German Ambassador to Turkey Eckart Cuntz said Tuesday Turkey is a safe port and it has drawn many companies.
"However, there are many things to be done," he told a conference on foreign capital in Istanbul.
The German ambassador enumerated them as issuing working permit for foreign engineers and lifting of bureaucratic hurdles.
Cuntz said there are more than 3,000 German investments in Turkey, and 1,000 of them were made in the last two years.
"Germany is Turkey`s biggest trade partner, and a country that buys Turkish goods the most," he told.
Cuntz said Turkey`s growth rate started to increase after its EU membership negotiations were launched.
"This process means an adjustment and a standardization. Turkey will become more competitive in international arena and could attract more foreign investments," he told.
Cuntz said Turkey should go on with reforms.
"A Turkish-German university will be established in Turkey, and it will focus on economy and engineering," he told.
Cuntz said this will raise importance of Turkey as a country of investments.
"Germany will enjoy advantages of it as Turkey does," he told.
