Cheney Focuses On Iraq, Afghanistan & Mideast In His Visit To Ankara

ANKARA - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who held a series of talks in capital Ankara on Monday, discussed with Turkish officials various issues such as the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, as well as the peace process in the Middle East and international terrorism.
According to diplomatic sources, Turkish and U.S. officials agreed during the talks that protection of Iraq`s territorial integrity would be for the common benefit of Turkey and USA.
Afghanistan`s stability was another issue assessed during Cheney`s meetings. Cheney said that USA appreciated the activities carried out by Turkey in Afghanistan.
Cheney, who recently held talks in the Middle East prior to his arrival in Ankara, shared his impressions regarding the region with Turkish officials as well.
During his talks, the U.S. Vice President also expressed the importance of Kosovo for the security of Balkans, sources said.
