CANAKKALE (CIHAN) - The recent release of the blockbuster film "Troy" has boosted the number of the tourists visiting the western Turkish city of Çanakkale which is the location of ancient Troy.
The number of the tourists who visited ancient Troy has increased by 73 percent to reach 219,358 following the release of the Troy film.
Çanakkale and ancient Troy are located in the northwest of modern-day Turkey.
The recent film 'Troy' based on Homer's epic the Iliad has aroused great interest across world. Many foreign tourists are now considering coming to Turkey for their holidays.
The number of tourists is expected to boom when the Trojan horse used in the film is given to the Turkish city of Canakkale. Several tourism agencies are expected to organize tours to the region.
The Istanbul Archaeology Museum opened its ancient Troy exhibition last May due to heightened interest from foreign tourists and Turkish visitors.
