ANKARA - Turkey and Turkmenistan issued a joint statement following Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow`s visit to Ankara on Monday.
According to the statement signed by Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Berdimuhamedow, the two leaders discussed the current status of Turkish-Turkmen relations and focused on opportunities to develop ties in the future based on mutual benefit and equality.
The two sides discussed, in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, to make existing cooperation in diverse areas more dynamic. Gul and Berdimuhamedow talked on regional and international matters that both Turkey and Turkmenistan are interested in.
The two presidents emphasized that brotherly ties, common language and culture will play an important role in developing relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan in the future.
Gul and Berdimuhamedow indicated that strong cooperation to benefit the peoples of both countries carries priority.
The two presidents focused on the need to develop cooperation in the fields of energy, textiles, transportation, communications, tourism, construction and banking. Within this framework, the two presidents agreed to provide all possible assistance to businessmen of respective countries.
Gul and Berdimuhamedow stressed that the "Turkish-Turkmen Inter-governmental Economic Committee" is a prominent body to promote commercial and economic relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan.
The two presidents affirmed that the summits of heads of state of Turkish speaking countries provides a good atmosphere to develop brotherly relations.
Gul and Berdimuhamedow pointed out to the necessity of developing relations in cultural, academic, touristic and sports fields.
The two presidents expressed pleasure over Turkey`s and Turkmenistan`s contributions to peace and security.
Gul and Berdimuhamedow remarked that Turkey and Turkmenistan are ready to contribute to bilateral and multi-dimensional cooperation based on the United Nations statute and international laws.
Berdimuhamedow extended an invitation to Gul to visit Turkmenistan at the conclusion of their talks. President Gul accepted Berdimuhamedow`s invitation.
