ANKARA - Turkey hosted 1,679 thousand tourists in the first two months of 2008, marking an 11.8 increase over to the same period last year, the Culture and Tourism Ministry announced Monday.
The number of tourists from OECD member countries rose by 12.2 percent whereas the number of Eastern European tourists rose by 10.5 percent, with a total of 785,471 and 281,000 visitors respectively.
German tourists took the lead to visit Turkey with 294,827, and they were followed by Bulgarians with 142,528, and Russians with 97,235.
