LEFKOSA - Melih Gokcek, Mayor of Ankara, and an accompanying delegation visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as part of "Ankara Days in Lefkosa" made observations at the Lokmaci (Ledra) border pass on Sunday.
Gokcek and his delegation were escorted by Mayor of Lefkosa Cemal Bulutoglulari. Mayor Bulutoglulari gave information on the Lokmaci border pass to Gokcek.
"As the Turkish side, we can make the Lokmaci (Ledra) border pass ready for crossing in three days," Bulutoglulari indicated.
"I hope that we can open the border pass. I believe that opening the Lokmaci border pass will benefit the Turkish Cypriots economically," Bulutoglulari told.
Meanwhile, Mayor Gokcek noted that "it was a good coincidence to have `Ankara Days in Lefkosa` at the same time with the restart of negotiations in Cyprus. We have been pleased to see `Ankara Days` coincide with a peaceful atmosphere in Cyprus."
"We always wish that Turkish and Greek Cypriots live together in Cyprus side by side. We hope that a compromise on the Lokmaci border pass will be followed by other compromises. I hope that friendship will prevail in Cyprus," Gokcek also said.
