ISTANBUL - A total of 12 people were taken into custody in Istanbul and capital Ankara on Friday within the scope of the ongoing "Operation Ergenekon".
Workers` Party (IP) Chairman Dogu Perincek, Columnist Ilhan Selcuk, Kemal Alemdaroglu, Ferit Ilsever, Adnan Akfirat, Yusuf Besirik, Aydin Gergin, Aykut Tokak, Mahir Gungor, Yusuf Tuncer, Ibrahim Benli and Serhan Bolluk were taken into custody in line with the orders of the responsible prosecutors and court decisions obtained by them.
The investigation concerning the detained still continues, officials said.
"Ergenekon terrorist organization" was revealed after police seized hand grenades, TNT explosives and fuses in a house in Istanbul on June 12th, 2007. A total of 39 people have been arrested under the investigation.
