Sahin Attends Seminar On International Arbitration

ANKARA - Turkish Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said Friday a country`s economic stability depended on its political stability.
Delivering a speech at the inauguration of the 6th International Arbitration Seminar in capital Ankara, Sahin said arbitration issue was "an old institution, but a new experience" for Turkish legal system.
Sahin said the biggest gap regarding arbitration in Turkey was the absence of an "arbitration institute".
"Arbitration is not only a way to solve commercial disputes, but it also means civilization, democratization and using democratic ways," he said.
Sahin also pointed to the parallelism between economic and political stability.
"When talking about ensuring economic stability, you cannot say that international rules are required in economic life, but you have your own rules in politics. If you say so, you will push foreign investors away. When foreign investors come to our country, they check whether international rules are functioning in commercial and political life," Sahin said.
