Turkish Police Search IP, Ulusal Kanal And Aydinlik Magazine

ISTANBUL - Turkish police searched branches of Workers` Party (IP) and private TV channel "Ulusal Kanal" in Istanbul on Friday.
"Police staged simultaneous operations at the branches of IP, Ulusal Kanal and Aydinlik magazine in Istanbul and Ankara around 4-4:30 a.m. this morning," Erkan Onsel, deputy chairman of IP, told reporters.
Onsel said IP Chairman Dogu Perincek and Ulusal Kanal`s executive Ferit Ilsever were detained.
On the other hand, Ufuk Akkaya, chief of intelligence department of "Ulusal Kanal", claimed Cumhuriyet daily`s publisher Ilhan Selcuk, businessman Ibrahim Benli, former president of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Kemal Alemdaroglu, Aydinlik magazine`s editor-in-chief Serhan Bolluk, Perincek`s guard Yusuf Beserik, and journalist Adnan Akfirat were also taken into custody.
Akkaya claimed police raided Perincek`s, Ilsever`s and Selcuk`s houses simultaneously, and they were still investigating computers and documents at Ulusal Kanal building and IP`s offices in Istanbul.
