ANKARA - Bureaucrats of the Turkish Defense Industry Undersecretariat signed Thursday a contract with executives of Limak Holding (Turkey)-GMR (India)-MAHB (Malaysia) consortium for management of Istanbul`s Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and construction of the new international flights terminal.
"We will use the income -- we will obtain from the tender for management of the airport and construction of new terminal building -- to develop our defense industry and meet modernization needs of Turkish Armed Forces," Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said during the signature ceremony at the Defense Industry Undersecretariat in capital Ankara.
Gonul said the airport management will be transferred to the consortium within two months, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal will take place on May 3rd.

A public tender to construct a new international flights terminal at the Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Anatolian side of Istanbul, was held in Ankara on July 9th, 2007.
Limak Insaat Corp.-GMR Infrastructure LTD-Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad consortium won the tender. The consortium established a new company named "Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport Investment, Construction & Management Corp." This company will pay 1,932 billion Euro and Value Added Tax (VAT) to run the airport for 20 years.
The company will also construct international flights terminal with 10 million passenger capacity, a 3-storey parking lot for 4,500 vehicles, and a 60-room airport hotel. It will also manage these buildings for 20 years.
