LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Ministry assessed positively Thursday the European Union (EU) Commission's package of proposals which was prepared to boost the economic development of TRNC. Commercial and financial regulations were also included in the package.
In a written statement, the Ministry said that the package was asking EU member states to end unjust economic isolation of the TRNC . The ministry however added that the Commercial Regulation is not clear as regards the use of air and sea ports of TRNC and does not offer a concrete solution for direct trade.
The statement stressed that the only way for the enactment of Commercial and Financial Regulations most effectively, would be strengthening the consultations with Turkish authorities in the north. The Ministry would have to integrate the package with development plans of TRNC government, added the statement.
The Ministry said that it hoped the EU would not heed the Greek Cypriot administration's initiatives to prevent the implementation of the package. It added that TRNC is expecting all obstacles hampering the opening of TRNC ports will be eliminated rapidly and the free trade will start soon.
