ANKARA - Officials from the United Nations, European Union as well as Turkey gathered in a meeting on sustainable development in Turkish capital Ankara on Tuesday organized by State Planning Organization of Turkey (DPT), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union.
Speaking at the meeting, UNDP Representative Mahmud Ayoub said sustainable development was common future and decision.
"The concept is development but it is defined as `meeting today`s needs of development without compromising future generations` ability to develop`," Ayoub said.
"We are very grateful for the DPT as it has extended huge support for our project. We need to include principles of sustainable development in the integration of regional development strategies. This is an effort worth trying, this is a common future, a common decision," Ayoub said.
