In European Democracies, Political Issues Are Discussed In Parliaments, Rehn

BRUSSELS - European Commissioner for enlargement Olli Rehn said Saturday in European democracies, political issues are discussed in parliaments, not in court rooms.
The Commission respects the distribution of duty between the executive and judicial branches, i.e. executive branch should not intervene in judiciary and the vice versa, he told when commenting on the closure case filed against the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party.
Rehn said he hopes this development will not finish political energy of the government, and delay reforms that will strengthen fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.
Commissioner Rehn also said he trusts the government that it will use its political energy on reforms.
Turkey discussed some political matters (secularism, headscarf) during the election process last year and the nation made its preference, he told.
