ISTANBUL - Former Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said Saturday closure cases would not harm any political parties asked to be banned. He said AK Party would win 70 percent of votes in the next election.
"I am telling you as a man who has never sold his soul and spirit. This case has no legal ground," Arinc told reporters in Istanbul.
"We do not have any concerns, worries or sorrow. We feel sorrow only for our country, our people and our democracy," Arinc said.
Former Parliament Speaker Arinc is one of 71 Justice & Development (AK) Party members who are asked to be banned from politics in the indictment submitted to Constitutional Court on Friday by the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor`s Office.
"I will only be honored by being accused in such an indictment of such a case," Arinc said. "I will continue to do what I know as true."
He also said political party executives or representatives should take the consequences of illegal activities, but shutting down a political party because of their faults is not possible even in underdeveloped countries.
"You will see. Turkish Parliament will save the country from this shame," he said. "This case is overshadowed, this indictment is weak. It is a product of hatred and grudge, not laws."
Arinc added they trust the constitutional court and would hail the court decision anyhow.
