ISTANBUL - Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said Saturday it is nations that establish and/or close political parties in modern democracies.
"In the history, we witnessed that parties were closed and also some parties fade away with the will of nation," he told the Second Regular General Assembly of the Turkish Businessmen`s & Industrialists` Association (TUSKON) in Istanbul.
Toptan said, "the parties we closed strengthened in time and were re-born", when commenting on the closure case against the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party.
Parliament Speaker Toptan said interventions without the support of public will weaken politics and cause hesitations in the society.
"I sincerely believe that the Constitutional Court will make the rightest decision in the possible shortest time," he also said.
