ERDOGAN: TROOPS WILL NOT BE WITHDRAWN FROM CYPRUS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied news of Greek Cypriot newspapers which claimed that Turkey will withdraw 5 thousand soldiers from Cyprus. When a reporter asked Erdogan about the claim prior to his departure for Bulgaria, Erdogan said that such an issue was neither spoken nor thought, adding that those claims were baseless.

TURKISH JAZZ DAYS IN NEW YORK
New York will host a festival in which Turkey's leading names of jazz will participate. American jazz fans will have the chance to listen to Turkish musicians during the festival named ''Turkish Musicians: All That Jazz''. The festival will be held between September 23 and 27.

MYSTERIOUS TANK
A T-80 tank and an armored vehicle which were divided into pieces in Moscow in order to be sent to Turkey were seized. Russian secret service brought to daylight a serious arm trafficking in Solkova Customs. The vehicles which would probably be sent to Turkey by trucks were declared as agricultural machines. However, they were the pieces of a T-80 tank and an armored vehicle. The investigation was widened after this seizure. The director general of Transdizel under the umbrella of Tehnoremmas company which was about to send the consignment to Turkey was detained. Moscow has not announced the customer of tanks in Turkey.

TURKISH PLANE MANAGES TO OVERCOME DISASTER IN LAST MINUTE
Turkish Fly Air plane which took off from Ben Gurion Airport of Israel without taking permission from the tower was almost crashing into a cargo plane which was landing at the airport. Fly Air Airbus A-300 plane with 180 passengers took off from the Ben Gurion Airport on Saturday. In the meantime, an Israeli cargo plane was landing at the airport. Two planes met in the same altitude two miles away from each other. Fortunately, an accident didn't happen. Israeli officials launched an investigation, thinking that the pilots might be drunken, and asked the Turkish airline company not to send these two pilots to Israel any more.

REDUCTION IN TELEPHONE TARIFFS TO START ON AUGUST 1
Turk Telekom will reduce fixed telephone tariffs by around 80 percent as of August 1. New fixed telephone tariffs and reduction packages of Telekom will be announced in a press conference today.

OLYMPIC TORCH PASSED THROUGH ISTANBUL
The Olympic torch was brought to Istanbul yesterday before Athens Olympics will start in August. 125 famous people including sportsmen, journalists and businessmen carried the torch from Asia continent to Europe continent. The torch will be in Bulgaria today.

NATO VETERANS FILE LAWSUIT AGAINST POLICE
NATO opponents, who were injured while protesting the summit that was organized in Istanbul, applied to prosecutor's office. The protestors filed lawsuit against President, Prime Minister, Interior Minister, Istanbul Governor and Security Director.

70 TRILLION LIRAS TO OKUR
A wealth was proposed to Mehmet Okur who experienced championship with Detroit Pistons. Okur, who agreed with Utah Jazz in principle, will take a transfer fee worth of nearly 70 trillion Turkish Liras for six years.

TERRORISM WARNING TO DEP DEPUTIES
German Ambassador to Turkey Wolf Ruthard Born said that PKK and some other organizations are all terrorist organizations and added that everybody should oppose terrorism in a clear way. Born wanted former Democracy Party (DEP) deputies to remain distant from terrorism.

GREEK CYPRIOT ATTACK IN PILE VILLAGE
Some Greek Cypriot people opened fire on the Turkish Cypriot local administrator's office in Pile village, the only place where Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot people have been living together and which is under the control of the United Nations. Passengers in a Greek Cypriot-plate vehicle opened fire on the local administrator's office and windows of the office were shattered. No casualty was reported. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs harshly protested the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

EU PACKAGE TO COME FOR TRNC
The European Commission will announce financial assistance and direct trade package for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) today. The assistance covers 259 million Euros for a period of three years. Greek Cypriots reacted against the package.

NEW PROGRAM TO HEAL WOUNDS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''we are now declaring a war against unemployment, poverty, and imbalance of income.'' Addressing the gathering of his Justice and Development Party (AK Party), Erdogan noted that chronic micro- economic problems would rapidly be solved and said, ''our team of experts is actually working on a new three-year program. We will start to implement a new economic program which will be in line with Turkey's realities, and which aims at ending unemployment, poverty, imbalance of income, and which gives priority to social development.''

OLYMPIC TORCH IN ISTANBUL
The Olympic torch, which will be brought to 34 cities in 27 countries before returning to the Greek capital in August for the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games, arrived in Istanbul yesterday.

CAMERAS TESTED DURING SUMMIT TO WATCH ISTANBUL
Cameras, which were used for the first time in the NATO valley during the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit held between June 28 and 29 , will, from now on, be used to identify those who are endangering public security and those who are trying to stage possible terrorist attacks. Hidden cameras will be placed in main streets of Istanbul and the enemies of public security will be arrested immediately. The cameras will help police determine the license plate of stolen cars.

FOREIGN INVESTMENT FLOW IN TURKEY RISES TO 900 MILLION USD
Turkish State Minister Ali Babacan said that around 2,000 foreign companies were established in Turkey after the direct foreign investment law entered into force in June 2003. Babacan added that direct foreign investment inflow reached 900 million U.S. dollars since then.
