LEFKOSA - Some Greek Cypriot people opened fire on the Turkish Cypriot local administrator's office in Pile village in which Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot people have been living together under control of the United Nations.
Sources said on Tuesday that a group of Greek Cypriots held demonstration in Pile overnight with weapons and explosives to mark the success of Greek national soccer team.
They opened fire in the air and on the local administrator's office. Some windows of the office were shattered.
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs harshly protested the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Aytug Plumer described the event as extremely serious, adding that such an event was unacceptable.
''We cannot accept violation of rights of our citizens in a village under control of the UNFICYP and the armed attack against local administrator's office,'' he said.
Plumer added that they expected United Nations and UNFICYP officials to take all necessary measures to prevent such events.
