It Is A Misfortune For A Ruling Party To Be In This Situation, Ozyurek

ANKARA - Mustafa Ozyurek, the deputy chairman of the main opposition Republican People`s Party (CHP), said Friday it is a misfortune for a ruling party to be in this situation (closure process).
"We do not find closure of political parties right," he told reporters when commenting on the lawsuit the Supreme Court Chief Prosecutor filed to close the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party, saying that "the party has become the focal point of anti-secularist activities."
Ozyurek said, "however, if a party has committed a crime, the chief prosecutor has to fulfil his/her duties."
"I hope the ruling party will take this case into consideration, and review its stance and commitment to fundamental principles of the Constitution and secularism," he told.
On the other hand, CHP MP Sahin Mengu said he finds closure of political parties wrong.
"But, legal methods should be open for a party that tries to eviscerate secularism and change some fundamental values," he also said.
