LEIPZIG - Turkey is participating in the international book fair in Leipzig, Germany for the second time this year.
"The Republic of Turkey, founded after a historical unity of cultural values for centuries, is actually the cradle of a huge cultural heritage," Ahmet Ari, the DG of Libraries & Publications Department of Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism, told a press conference in Leipzig, which is hosting the book fair for the 14th time.
Ari said it is possible to see, from Turkey`s literature, music, architecture and arts, the influence of the Balkans, Arab and Iranian culture, contributions of various ethnic and religious groups that have lived in Turkey`s territories, and how all these features are intermingled with each other.
"Also, we will share our multi-cultural heritage and wealth with other during the International Frankfurt Book Fair, to which we will attend as the guest country," Ari told.
Around 1,500 authors are participating in the Leipzig Book Fair, whereas the city will host 1,900 events on the sidelines of the fair.
Authors Ahmet Umit, Feridun Zaimoglu, Asu Aksoy, Tanil Bora, Reha Erdem, Celil Oker and Asli Erdogan represent Turkey in the fair which is expected to receive some 140,000 visitors this year.
