ANKARA - Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and Grenadines voiced his country's support for Turkey to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
"We want Turkey to be a stronger and a more effective country and we support its candidacy for a non-permanent seat in UN Security Council and we also support Izmir's bid to host EXPO 2015," Gonsalves told a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Gonsalves said his country extended a written pledge to support Izmir's EXPO candidacy, saying that many other countries in the Caribbean supported the city as well.
The premier said Saint Vincent and Grenadines considered Turkey as "a rising star in the world", adding that Turkey was "one of the economic powers in the world."
"Turkey has a rich and deep-rooted civilization. It is in the middle of the East and West, and it is a major bridge for our quest for alliance between civilizations, peace and justice", Gonsalves said.
