DAKAR - President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in Senegalese capital of Dakar on Thursday.
Talat, who is currently in Dakar to attend the 11th Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said that he requested UN SG to take initiative to resume talks on Cyprus issue.
"I had the impression that he will take action," Talat told reporters.
During the 40-minute meeting between Talat and Ban Ki-Moon, Talat pointed out to the importance of UN`s active participation in the process.
"The Secretary General said that UN would take a position after making necessary investigation," Talat said, stating that they had a quite fruitful meeting.
"UN SG said that he would send Lynn Pascoe, UN`s Under- secretary General for Political Affairs, to Cyprus soon," he added.
Talat, who will continue to hold talks with officials on Thursday, will deliver a speech at OIC`s General Assembly on Friday.
