Unakitan: Ratio Of Budget Expenses To Gross Domestic Product Drops To 23.5 Percent

ANKARA - Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Wednesday that the ratio of budget expenses to gross domestic product (GSYH) dropped to 23.5 percent in 2006 after a recent update in the country`s national accounts system.
He added that this ratio was 30.9 percent before the update.
Unakitan held a joint press conference with state ministers Nazim Ekren and Mehmet Simsek in Ankara.
Unakitan said that the ratio of budget expenses to GSYH in 2000 which was 41.2 percent decreased to 30.8 percent after the update.
He noted that the ratio of budget income to GSYH in 2006 which was 30.1 percent (before update) dropped to 22.9 percent, adding that the ratio was 28.6 percent in 2002 (before update) and it decreased to 22.7 percent.
Unakitan said that Turkey will pursue its fiscal discipline. He added that one of the indispensable issues for Turkey is structural reforms.
Unakitan said that structural reforms, fiscal discipline and privatization projects will continue.
