ISTANBUL - Faruk Buyukkucak, a Representative of Turk-Is Labor Unions Confederation said Wednesday "major labor unions forming the Labor Platform decided to go on a nationwide two-hour strike on Friday, March 14th, to warn the government regarding the Social Security and Health Insurance draft law".
We will use our right "not to work" on March 14th, Buyukkucak underlined.
"Citizens may be affected due to the strike. There could be problems in air, land and sea travel on Friday," Buyukkucak noted.
Chairmen of the labor unions member of the Labor Platform convened earlier Monday in an extra-ordinary meeting upon the call of Turk-Is Confederation. After the meeting, Turk-Is Chairman Mustafa Kumlu read a communique adopted by the Platform, in a press conference.
Labor Platform board of executives said in the communique that the draft law seriously damages the rights of workers, the retired, widows and orphans, and stressed that taking back the acquired rights was a violation of the social state principle.
The communique announced the platform`s decision to launch a series of protests against the draft. It said that, the member labor unions would make public statements on March 13th in all provinces, and go on a two-hour strike between 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on March 14th.
Should the draft law be brought to the full house of the parliament for discussion the same day, leaders and representatives of labor unions will gather in Ankara to communicate their reaction to the parliament, also read the communique.
