ANKARA (CIHAN) - Turkish parliament has legislated more than 100 amnesty, forgiveness and pardon bills in 80-year old history of the Turkish Republic to break an impregnable record.
Ankara Chamber of Trade (ATO) issued on Sunday a report on history of amnesties, pardons and forgiveness legislations in 80-year old Turkish Republic. More than 100 amnesty bills have been passed through the Turkish parliament for 80 years.
The first amnesty, which was legislated in December 5th 1921, was granted to the people who committed crimes in the Turkish lands which was under the French occupation before the Turkey's Independence War.
First general amnesty to the convicts was legislated by the Turkish parliament in January 7, 1922.
Turkish parliament adopted 8 student pardon bills to allow the students who were banned or suspended from their schools to resume their educations. The first student pardon was adopted in 1983.
Turkey passed 37 financial forgiveness including tax forgiveness through her parliament during 80-year old history. The final tax forgiveness was legislated in February 27, 2003.
Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan revealed on Sunday that Turkish treasury collected nearly 3 quadrillion 600 trillion from the taxpayers who formerly failed to pay their taxes regularly. Unakýtan said that government reached its target in collecting unpaid taxes thanks to recent tax forgiveness.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer pardoned 246 convicts out of 247 who applied to attain pardons from the Turkish president due to their ill health.
The ATO report say that there are new amnesty and forgiveness draft bill has been awaiting to be presented to the Turkish parliament.
